Father's Day: Fundraising or
Fun-Karring?
16th of July 2008
The 13th of Rajab
being the Wiladat of Imam Ali (as), was an occasion
with one of the largest turnouts this year. The
Panjtan Society Youth Group took the initiative of
celebrating the wiladat of our beloved Imam under the
banner of the Islamic ‘Father’s day’. 2007 was the
first year in which the youths organised the father’s
day fundraising event with the assistance of their
honourable coordinator, Marhoom Alamdar Uncle. In
appreciation towards the commitment of Marhoom Alamdar
Uncle and the success which followed his efforts, the PSYG
took it upon themselves to conduct another, similarly
organised event in 2008.
The event was organised by the
PSYG youth coordinators and made possible by the
combined efforts of the dozens of youths who put hours
into making the event possible. For sale on the day
were 400 hundred kebab snack packs and 150 lolly bags.

Whilst celebrating the birth of
Imam Ali (as), the youth found it necessary to
simultaneously keep in mind the not so fortunate
Muslims of the world, as indeed, Imam Ali (as)
regularly did himself.
With the efforts of dozens of
youths selling food packs, alongside the generosity of
the community, masha’Allah a healthy figure
of over $2700 was
raised. Funds raised will go towards providing
survival essentials for those displaced and oppressed
Muslims of Parachinar in Pakistan.
A special thanks to the PSYG
heroes who came to the rescue less than 24 hours
before the event! They are:

Whether you were decorating the
centre, cutting naan, chopping salad, packing kebabs,
mixing raita, tying bags, counting trays, selling
tickets, counting money or taking photos (or for some,
eating pizza, peeling cucumbers, playing tiggy and
attacking each other with balloons), and later
cleaning the centre, thank you very much for your time
and efforts. Your contribution has truly made a
difference to the outcomes of the PSYG 2008 Father’s
day. May Allah reward you for all your efforts however
big or small.
Jazak’Allah
