WHILST the
month of Muharam is one in which Shia Muslims
experience an emotional
downfall
mourning the death of
the grandson of the Holy Prophet (S.A.W), it is
also a month in which the principles of Islam
truly shine. With every dua, majlis, noha and
ziarat there is a reinforcement of the reasoning
behind Imam Hussain’s (A.S) martyrdom, and that
is Islam. With 75 followers consisting of family
and companions, the Imam faced an army of
approximately 30,000 run by the tyrants. Whilst
the Imam knew that the family of the Prophet (S.A.W) were
outnumbered, he also knew that the word of this
battle to save Islam and the reason behind it
would reach every land on this Earth. On the 10th
of Muharam the Imam was martyred. The sacrifice
of his and his family's lives was solely
in the name of Islam,
and the teachings of his grandfather. In
commemoration of the many martyrs, the Imam and
the purpose of his sacrifice, Panjtan Society
Youth Group organised a Blood Donation Day.
Soon after the
day which marked 40 days since the martyrdom of
Imam Hussain (A.S), PSYG arranged for a Red
Cross blood bus to come out to the Panjtan
Society centre and collect that much needed red
stuff. Youths ranging in ages from 16 to 25
donated blood and recruited blood donors for
this great cause. With over 100 blood donations
within 48 hours, the youth group managed to
potentially save 300 lives in Australia.
Many youths
volunteered with organising the day including,
food preparation, baby-sitting, form-filling
assistance, parking control and people
navigation. The purpose for the blood donations
was to continue on with Imam Hussain’s (AS) last
words: “Is there anyone out there to help me?”.
This call has been depicted by great scholars,
of the Imam’s wish for a continuation of the
defence and protection of Islam during times of
oppression, even if it means sacrificing one’s
life. In the 21st century the
practicality of the Imam’s words is to defend
Islam by showing the world what Islam and its
followers are really about. With the needs of
others in mind, the youths took the words of
Imam Hussain (A.S) and put them into action.
PSYG have
plans to organise a second blood collection day
for the year in order to keep the principles of
Islam revived throughout the whole year, rather
than just in the month of Muharram. Management
have suggested July as a feasible time for the
second batch of blood beauties.
