relief supplies including food, medicine,

immediate assistance required to survive in
those condition.
On the morning of
Saturday, May 3 2008, cyclone Nargis, the
worst storm to strike Myanmar in living memory,
slammed into the south-west region of the
country. Passing first through the Irrawaddy
delta before moving north-east to Myanmar's
largest city, Yangon (Rangoon), Nargis' 140 mph
winds wrought unprecedented devastation to
South-East Asia's poorest state.
With much
of the already crumbling infrastructure now
completely destroyed in the country's most
populous region, in the town of Bogalay alone,
at least 10,000 people have perished.
More than 95% of dwellings having been razed to
the ground and large swathes of land now lie
underwater. Estimates of the overall death toll
are now in excess of 45,000.
Yangon (Rangoon) has fared little better, with
widespread damage reported throughout the city.
Power, water, the cost of essential goods has
skyrocketed. Demand for food and building
supplies, in particular, has seen prices rise up
to 1,000% .
Many of the local Muslims, particularly the
Shi’ah, are amongst the most deprived of an
already impoverished Burmese population. Those
Muslims residing in the shanty towns on the
periphery of Yangon have been hit especially
hard. Without timely aid, it is feared many of
these people will succumb to the effects of
hunger, thirst, and disease. Money is
desperately needed for the purchase of food,
clean water, clothing, medicines, temporary
housing, and building supplies. Therefore, we
urgently request donations in order to relieve
the suffering of the people of Myanmar in this
time of great need.
Please be generous in your contributions and
remember the words of Allah (SWT)…
